HFCC Energy Summit Shows Potential Of Green Business More than 200 people gathered Friday at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn for the third annual HFCC Energy Summit. The event featured keynotes and breakouts on a wide variety of energy and green topics, along with a trade fair that drew more than 20 exhibitors and test rides of green vehicles from Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co.

UM Scientists Identify Chemical in Bananas as Inhibitor of HIV Infection A potent new inhibitor of HIV, derived from bananas, may open the door to new treatments to prevent sexual transmission of HIV, according to a University of Michigan Medical School study published this week. Scientists have an emerging interest in lectins, naturally occurring chemicals in plants, because of their ability to halt the chain of reaction that leads to a variety of infections.

Ford Transit Connect Builds on DTE's Sustainability Efforts DTE Energy Corp., which provides natural gas and electric utility services to 3.4 million Michigan homes and businesses, has purchased 19 Ford Transit Connect vans and is exploring additional ways to integrate the new compact vehicle into its fleet. GR No. 3 On Google Fiber Buzz List Grand Rapids is No. 3 on a new analysis of the online buzz surrounding cities' efforts to get a new super-speed digital network demonstration project from Google Inc. The analysis of "digital conversations" by the Grand Rapids marketing agency Steketee Greiner and Co. lists Duluth, Minn. and Topeka, Kan. as No. 1 and No. 2. The two other Michigan cities actively seeking Google fiber, Ann Arbor and Flint, did not appear on the list.

Pure Michigan Summer Advertising May Be Canceled Michigan Economic Development Corp. president and CEO Greg Main Thursday warned that the awarding-winning -- and proven effective -- Pure Michigan tourism advertising campaign may be forced to cancel all summer advertising due to a lack of funds. Such a cancellation would cost Michigan tourism-related businesses hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue and would reduce state tax receipts by millions.

Ann Arbor's Logic Solutions Merges With Web Development Firm Ann Arbor-based Logic Solutions Inc. has merged with the Ann Arbor Web site development firm Arachne Web Technologies. Logic Solutions will be the surviving corporation. Logic COO Bruce Richardson said the merger benefits Arachne customers by providing access to Logic’s extensive resources, including expanded services and technological support.

Holland IT Firm Buys Services Unit Of Competitor Holland-based Worksighted, an IT management firm, Thursday announced the acquisition of the professional services division of Holland-based ISG, one of the largest IT firms in West Michigan. The combination expands Worksighted’s customer-base throughout west Michigan including Holland, Grand Rapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon and forms one of the largest IT management firms in the Lakeshore region.

Federal-Mogul Products Cut Electromagnetic Interference As automakers continue to develop vehicles with significantly increased use of electronic controls, there is a growing need to ensure that the electrical and electronic architecture is protected against electromagnetic interference. First, sadly, came news of the demise of a very cool concept I saw at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show. According to AutoTech, GM vice chairman Bob Lutz tells Leftlane News that there are no longer any plans to build the Cadillac Converj extended-range electric car, based on the Chevrolet Volt.
