Fieger To Pay Fine

Southfield (WWJ)  -- Geoffrey Fieger's law firm has agreed to pay a $131,000 fine to the Federal Election Commission, to resolve an investigation into donations to John Edwads' 2004 presidential campaign.

The FEC found probable cause that Fieger's Southfield-based firm violated federal campaign laws.

Fieger and his law partner, Ven Johnson, were acquitted in a federal trial in 2008, when jurors said the government failed to prove the lawyers knew they were breaking the law.

Fieger's attorney says the firm decided to pay the fine instead of continuing the expensive litigation, even though they felt confident they could win.
