Southfield (WWJ) -- A number of celebrities will be hitting the dance floor Saturday night to help raise money for the South Oakland Shelter. The Dancing with the Stars fundraiser kicks off at 7 p.m. at The Reserve in Birmingham.
Kevin Roach, the executive director of the shelter, says he has seen two trends recently including a dramatic increase in the number of women and children seeking shelter and more people experiencing homelessness for the first time.
"We've been tremendously surprised," Roach said. "They're coming to us more educated having had a number of different experiences, currently in our shelter we have four who have their bachelor degree, another who has his master's from the University of Michigan in engineering and so....we are seeing a new face of homelessness emerge."
Roach said if you can't donate money, people can volunteer time or services. He says the shelter has received calls from people offering free haircuts and other services.

Among the celebrity judges for the dancing fundraiser is WWJ Traffic reporter Alisa Zee.
