GM: No Plans To Bring Back Workers

Detroit (WWJ) -- With more than 6,000 of General Motors' manufacturing workers currently on layoff, CEO Fritz Henderson said many won't be coming back.
The new UAW contract from this year holds that after two years worth of benefits, if a worker isn't called back, they're gone, reported WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert.
“They have first year protection by SUB, second year protection by TSB. And if it turns out by a period of time, that the people aren't required, then they basically leave the company. That's how it works,” Henderson said.
Henderson also noted that 13,000 manufacturing workers have left GM already this year, many through buyouts, with no new buyouts planned.
GM is in the process of adding shifts at several plants, Henderson said, and their may be a few workers called back but not a large number.
