Ann Arbor (WWJ) -- It's the final chapter for 200 stores under the Borders Group.
The Ann Arbor-based book and music store chain says it will close 200 of its Waldenbooks and Borders Express stores. With the closures come 1,500 job cuts in January, though most are part-time positions.
Borders Group says the closings will leave about 130 Waldenbooks unit mall-based stores still operating. Borders superstores or mall kiosks won't be affected, nor will 500 Day by Day Calendar Co. spots.
The company says it's working toward becoming smaller and more profitable.
