Election Results In Metro Detroit



Southfield (WWJ)  -- There were a number of suburban races and issues decided in the general election Tuesday. 

In Macomb County, where voter turnout was just over 16%, voters overwhelmingly approved an "Executive" form of government, similar to Wayne and Oakland counties.  With all precincts reporting, the "yes" vote won in a landslide with 60%. 

In addition, voters approved a proposal to dissolved the Road Commission and roll it into a government department.

As for the mayoral races in Macomb County.

Sterling Heights voters re-elected Richard Notte,

Center Line will have a new mayor.  Councilman David Hanselman defeated incumbent mayor Mary Ann Zielinski by a near two to one margin. 

Mt. Clemens incumbent mayor Barb Dempsey has won another term. 

Memphis has a new mayor in Daniel Weaver.

Roseville has re-elected Mayor John Chirkun.

Larry Smith is the new mayor in New Baltimore.

New Haven voters have approved a ten million dollar bond proposal to fund a new water supply system. 

Eastpointe and Harrison Township voters have approved a millage renewal for police services. 

School proposals in the Fraser and Warren Consolidated districts won approval.

In Oakland County, Pontiac's new mayor will be former deputy mayor Leon Jukowski.  He was elected with 52% of the vote. 

Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence easily won re-election.

In Novi, David Landry has won re-election, as did Marilyn Stephan in Berkley.

Berkley voters have turned down a 15 million dollar bond issue for a new community center. 

Royal Oak residents turned down a moratorium on new liquor license transfers

Royal Oak Township voters said "no" to a millage hike for operations.

Brandon and Huron Valley districts have approved renewals to fund operations and repairs. 

A tax increase in the Madison District did not pass.  The money would've been used to buy land and build and repair school buildings. 

In Oxford, voters approved one proposal for a 33-million dollar bond issue to remodel and upgrade technology and playgrounds passed.  A second proposal that would raise money for a new athletic field at the high school was voted down.

There were several races and issues to be decided in Wayne County. 

In Taylor, Jeffrey Lamarand beat Cameron Priebe in the mayor's race.

In Dearborn, John O'Reilly, Jr. has handily defeated Michael Prus.

Lincoln Park  Mayor Frank Vaslo defeated challenger Joseph Baughman 

In Ecorse, incumbent Herbert Worthy has narrowly defeated former mayor Larry Salisbury by 15 votes.  Worthy was charged in September with taking bribes and turning the city's public works department over to contractors who were his largest campaign donors in 2007. He has pleaded not guilty.

One of the contractors, Stacey Tarockoff, cooperated with the FBI and secretly recorded conversations with Worthy. Tarockoff recently pleaded guilty to a banking crime.

Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski beat Abdul Algazali by less than two hundred votes to win re-election. 

In Romulus, incumbent Mayor Alan Lambert was also re-elected.

In Washtenaw County, voters countywide rejected a two-mill tax increase.  Money raised would have been split among school districts based on enrollment.  Click here for results.
