A Mighty Wind A-Blowin', Knocking Out Power

Southfield (WWJ)  -- This may not be Oklahoma, but the wind sure is rushin' over Metro Detroit.

Accuweather says frequent gusts around 45 miles per hour will be possible Saturday morning before subsiding late in the day. The National Weather Service had issued a wind advisory until 4pm Saturday. That means driving can be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles like big rigs and SUVs.

That also means power outages. As of early Saturday morning, DTE reported 20,000 customers were in the dark. That number was expected to grow until crews could begin repair work once the wind died down.

Spokesman John Austerberry tells WWJ they planned as best they could but Mother Nature is in control for now. He says DTE should have the lights back on for most customers by the end of the day -- if there are no significant outages before they are able to get started.

To report a power outage to DTE call 1-800-477-4747.
