Detroit (WWJ) -- The Detroit Public Schools and the Detroit Federation of Teachers have agreed to extend contract talks past the October 31st deadline.
DPS Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb says they are making tremendous progress on financial issues, and he's confident an agreement will be reached.
He says some of the on going contract talks with the union will include the State Board of Education.
"We have to take some of our concepts to other authorities beyond DPS for review" Bobb said.
"On the financial side, we have some fairly innovative ways in which we can save money. But, on the other hand, we have some significant reform measures that we need to tighten down," he said.
This is the second contract extension. The new deadline is November 21st.
