BEST Defending U.S.-Canadian Boarder

Detroit (WWJ)  -- A new international law enforcement team has been formed with an eye toward cracking down on illegal cross-border activity.

The 50 member BEST, or Boarder Enforcement Security Task Force, combines the efforts of U.S. and Canadian officers and agents led by US Immigration And Customs Enforcement.

Through the program, Canadian law enforcement will have a physical presence in the BEST office in Detroit.

“Well certainly in particular we're seeing a large amount of marijuana going back and forth across the boarders. In particular, marijuana seems to be being traded off for cocaine, weapons and other listed commodities which plagues both sides of the boarder,” said Don Bell,  chief superintendent with the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Bureau.

By having Canadian Law enforcement physically present in the Detroit office, along with other task force members, the flow of information is expected to be greatly enhanced, reported WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting.
