Detroit (WWJ) -- Cobo Center is home today to the first-ever Southeast Michigan Disability Expo.
A host of groups will be there to help those who are ready, willing, and able to work. The Detroit Workforce Development Board is hosting the event to promote National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Individuals with disabilities, their families, caregivers, healthcare providers, disability advocates, and human service professionals.
The Detroit Workforce Development Board's Disability Council is organizing the regional initiative in collaboration with Washtenaw County Michigan Works, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Detroit Disability Taskforce, and a host of community and disability focused organizations.
The Expo will feature exhibits and demonstrations focused on assistive technology, disability related supports, transportation, housing, education and training, recreation, and community-based services.
The Expo is the first of its kind for the region and is a part of the increasing popularity of similar events across the country.
Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. TTY Number 1-800-649-3777.
