TechTown sponsors speech by logistics expert: Detroit's TechTown business and research park will sponsor an Oct. 13 speech from Mark Lundquist, President and CEO of Fulcrum Edge, talking about “Moving, Packing, Sorting, Stacking: Starting a Logistics Company in Southeast Michigan.” The event will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at TechTown, 440 Burroughs Street, Detroit. Lundquist will provide details on SmartStart Logistics, a newTechTown accelerator program just for innovative logistics startup companies. Trivalent To Host Disaster Recovery Workshop: Grandville-based Trivalent Group, one of Michigan’s largest technology firms, will host “BIASurvivor,” a no-cost disaster recovery workshop for the business community, Thursday, Oct. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its headquarters, 3145 Prairie St. SW. Disaster recovery experts from Trivalent and Survivororstatistic.com will share strategies to increase an organization’s survivability by building an effective business continuity plan. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The program starts at 10 a.m. and includes a working lunch. Detroit Science Center sets Ford Free Fun Day: The Detroit Science Center’s next Ford Free FunDay will be “Blasting Off With Literacy” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. Visitors can enjoy free museum admission, special literacy activities and 1 p.m. presentations by Linda McLean, author of “The Heidelberg Project,” and Michael D. Scott, author of “King of Dilly Dally.” Ford Free FunDays offer complimentary General Admission for visitors (up to two adults and four children per party) on select dates. Families can enjoy a variety of themed activities and demonstrations throughout Ford Free FunDays. (Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre films are $5 on Ford Free FunDays.) Ford Free FunDays are made possible by Ford Motor Co. The program began at the Sci-ence Center in July 2005 and has been enjoyed by more than 55,000 visitors since its inception.

Business analysts to meet: The International Institute of Business Analysis Southeast Michigan Chapter will meet Thursday, Oct. 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Kelly Services Inc., 999 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy. The meeting will feature a new technology demonstration of InteGreat Enterprise Suite 2009.
