AAA Michigan To Lay Off 169 Employees

Dearborn (WWJ)  -- The American Automobile Association (AAA) plans to lay off 322 employees, including some in Michigan, because of the sputtering economy.

Michigan and five other states will be affected.  An estimated 169 of the layoffs will be in Michigan, with 142 of them in southeast Michigan. Nearly half of the job cuts are in travel services.

In January, the auto club laid off 200 employees, including 75 in Metro Detroit, and closed 14 branch offices in the state.

AAA Michigan is the state's second-largest auto insurer.
