2009 Mackinac Policy Conference


Hosted by the Detroit Regional Chamber, Wednesday, May 27 through Saturday, May 30, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, the 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference brings together more than 1,400 of Southeast Michigan's business and political leaders to discuss issues of importance to the Detroit region and the state. GM Offered Tax Incentives To Stay At Ren Cen


Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano Friday announced that Detroit's Renaissance Center is now a state Renaissance Zone, meaning that if GM stays there almost all taxes are abated and extra tax credits can be granted.

MEDC's Mason Named First Executive Director of URC


Jeff Mason, currently senior vice president and chief business development officer for the Michigan Economic Development Corp., has been selected to become the first executive director of Michigan's University Research Corridor effective July 6. The move marks the URC's continued growth in linking and focusing the reserch efforts of Michgian State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

Damp Kickoff To Mackinac Conference


Umbrellas are in high demand as Mackinac Island prepares to welcome the 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference.  A constant drizzle, wind, and temperatures in the upper 40's are making the long trek from the ferry docks to the Grand Hotel less than desirable for the at least 1,400 of Michigan's business and political leaders who will attend.
