Details On Prez Visit To Michigan

Warren (WWJ)  -- We're learning details of President Barack Obama's visit to Metro Detroit next week.

Mr. Obama plans to visit the city of Warren, hard-hit by auto industry downsizing, to hold a town-hall style meeting at Macomb Community College's Warren campus.  He'll be talking with Michigan families about their concerns and his policies.

It's his first visit to Michigan since becoming President.  Last fall, he held campaign rallies in Grand Rapids and East Lansing.

Not far from the site of next week's town hall meeting is TJ's Restaurant and Doughnuts.  Waitress Nicole Eberhard told WWJ's Ron Dewey that she can't wait for better opportunities in Michigan; she's going to school in Florida.

"I think right now it's the best thing to do.  It's getting better, but I don't want to hang around to see."

Customers said the President also needs to work on lowering taxes, improving schools and bringing more assurance that they will still have their jobs.

Like so many others in Michigan, Patrick Gibson is watching his cash flow, while Sheila Asar, just back from a two-month layoff, wonders if she can keep her manufacturing job.

"I just got my job back after being laid off two months ago.  I want to know if I will get laid off again because of what's happening in the auto industry." said Asar.

The Detroit Regional Chamber is asking its members to take a short survey about what the president should do to help the region thrive.

Chamber leaders will share all of the responses with President Obama's administration during his visit.

Obama's stay will be brief.  Mr. Obama will travel to St. Louis to make the ceremonial first pitch at Major League Baseball's All-Star Game later in the day.
