Cincinnati CPA Firm Joins Plante & Moran PLLC

Southfield-based Plante & Moran PLLC, one of the nation’s largest certified public accounting and business advisory firms, Monday announced a merger with Jackson, Rolfes, Spurgeon & Co., one of Cincinnati’s largest public accounting firms, effective July 1.

Plante & Moran currently has offices throughout Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio.

Plante & Moran has worked with JRS on a project basis over the last several years and found the synergies of the two firms provided a compelling benefit for its clients. Plante & Moran’s incoming managing partner, Gordon Krater, says Plante & Moran has been active in the Cincinnati market for several years and currently serves approximately 100 clients in the area.

“JRS is an outstanding match for us in many ways,” added Krater. “First and foremost, the merger will enable the firm to strengthen its presence in Cincinnati and build on Plante & Moran’s 85 years of growth in the Midwest. In addition, JRS has a client service philosophy very similar to Plante & Moran’s and a complementary industry focus.”

Jim Rolfes, managing partner of JRS, said the merger will bring new, broader-based services to its clients and enhanced career opportunities to the staff.

“Our clients will experience a seamless and transparent integration into the newly merged firm, aside from the name change, with an impressive menu of niche service options," Rolfes said. “Equally important, our staff are enthusiastic about the professional development and career opportunities afforded by such a large and nationally respected firm like Plante & Moran.”

JRS clients will now have access to a larger knowledge base, more advisors with in-depth industry specialization, and services in new practice areas. The merger brings JRS the strengths and resources of the nation’s 12th largest public accounting and business advisory firm. The merger provides Plante & Moran a local base in which to grow and continue to serve clients as the firm strengthens its presence in Ohio.  Plante & Moran also has offices in Toledo, Columbus, and Cleveland, Ohio as well as throughout Michigan and Illinois.

Jackson, Rolfes, Spurgeon & Co. is the 10th largest certified public accounting firm in Cincinnati. Founded in 1985, JRS offers financial, tax, and management consulting services to small and mid-sized businesses throughout Southern Ohio. The firm has specialty teams serving the manufacturing, construction and real estate, and automobile dealership industries.

Plante & Moran provides clients with, tax, audit, risk management, financial, technology, business consulting and wealth management services.  Plante & Moran has a staff of more than 1,500 professionals in 20 offices throughout Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Monterrey, Mexico and Shanghai, China.
