Lansing (WWJ) -- Legislation to be unveiled this week in Lansing would give Detroit City Council one final shot at approving a deal to keep the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall, before an Oakland County location would get a chance to host the annual event.
According to MIRS, which cites sources in the state capitol, if Detroit fails to approve the plan, Oakland County would be allowed to re-direct a chunk of its tobacco revenue to its building authority.
The most-likely location appears to be the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, which is currently 300,000 square feet, but has the land available to nearly quadruple its size.
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has said he would like to see the auto show stay in Detroit, but that if it has to leave the Motor City, he'd rather have it hosted in Oakland County rather than another Midwestern city such as Chicago.
