Steve Smitka

Waterford Kettering, Engineering

Involved in OCRA for 3 yrs - 1st year with FIRST

What we've heard about Mr. Smitka:

"Mr. Smitka is the coach of the Robotics team, he is here all the time after school and on weekends working with the team on the robot. He also tutors freshmen who are on the border of failing classes. Mr. Smitka should win the Teacher of the Year award because though this is his first year in FIRST, he competed at the tournament this past weekend (March 13-15) and he led the team to victory. Along with winning first place, they also won the Rookie of the Year Award. He puts so much time into the team and loves to spend time with them. He's one of the nicest people I know and is one of the best teachers. He is constantly looking for ways to help others. He is always here after school and spends countless hours devoted to his work. If anyone deserves to win to win this award, it is undoubtedly Steve Smitka."

"Mr. Smitka's commitment to his students is endless. My son, Joey Kaiser has been in his class for two years and he has been a tremendous influence on my son and many of his friends. Mr. Smitka is a young and fresh teacher and is very close to remembering exactly how he felt at the high school age, so he relates so well to the students and drives their energy and interest. I can say, that without Mr. Smitka, my son and many other students would not have any interest in school.

He has kept these kids alive, technologically, and academically. We need many more teachers like Mr. Smitka!years and he has been a tremendous influence on my son and many of his friends.
