Reid Thebault is board member and school founder of the YMCA Service Learning Academy.
YSLA was founded in 1998 under the direction of Thebault, CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, who ventured out to enter into a partnership with Edison Schools Inc. The YMCA Service Learning Academy opened its doors to students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade in 1999. In 2000, the school added sixth through eighth grades.
The school was built upon a basic tenant of the YMCA organization: a quality education for all students with a strong component for Service Learning for the community. YSLA focuses heavily on technology, a better use of time through a longer day and school year, and a world-class curriculum that is constantly being aligned instructionally to meet educational standards and benchmarks.
