Readers of AmericanStyle magazine ranked Detroit, the Number 25 Big City in the 10th annual Top 25 Arts Destinations readers’ poll.
In the Big Cities category (populations of 500,000 and over), New York City took the No. 1 spot for the fourth consecutive year. Perennial runner-up Chicago held its position at No. 2, and San Francisco inched up to No. 3, one place higher from last year.
Other big movers on the Big Cities list include Los Angeles at No. 6 (No. 12 in 2006), Phoenix, Ariz., at No. 8 (No. 15 in 2006), and Charlotte, N.C., at No. 18, which is making its debut in Big Cities category this year. Columbus, Ohio, witnessed the most dramatic drop in ranking, falling from No. 9 in 2006 to No. 21 this year.
For the third year in a row, AmericanStyle readers were able to vote for their favorite arts destinations based on city size. “This voting structure highlights the unique and interesting ways in which cities and towns of all sizes are using art to fuel tourism and revitalization projects,” said publisher Wendy Rosen.
Complete results of the annual readers’ poll and profiles of the top three cities in each category are featured on www.AmericanStyle.com and in the June issue of AmericanStyle, a national arts lifestyle magazine for enthusiasts, collectors and travelers.
