San Francisco-based Autonet Mobile Inc. and Troy-based Delphi Corp. have inked a deal to partner on Internet-based products for vehicles, AutoTech Daily reported.

The companies say they are developing a next-generation telematics platform and are upgrading communication connections to meet automotive requirements.

The partners also are field-testing new telematics and in-car entertainment products
using Internet-based services designed on the Autonet network architecture. During the development phase, they will provide demonstration vehicles equipped with the new technology to OEMs and consumers for testing.

Autonet claims to be the first in-vehicle Internet provider. The company says its system is optimized for in-car use and with minimal dropped connections. Users can stay connected to the Internet with any WiFi-enabled device. Autonet currently provides Uconnect Web as a dealer-installed Mopar accessory that is available to 3,400 Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships in the U.S. and in vehicles from Avis Rent a Car.
