Detroit (WWJ) -- Today is the deadline to file an income tax return that will allow you to receive an economic stimulus payment this year.
The IRS says thousands of individuals in Michigan have not filed the proper paperwork to receive the 300-dollar payment. The amount could increase if you are married or have children.
IRS officials say by law the department cannot disperse any economic stimulus payments after Dec. 31. However, people who may be eligible for an economic stimulus payment can claim a credit in 2009 by filing a 2008 income tax return. Listen to more from IRS spokesman Luis Garcia .
