Detroit (WWJ) -- Detroit's Capuchin Soup Kitchen's annual Sock Dinner -- "sock" standing for "support our Capuchin kitchen" -- helps raise money to feed the area's hungry.
This year's event is October 17 at Ford Field, with Ford CEO Alan Mulally as General Chairperson. "I've been down to the food kitchen itself, and had a chance to help serve," Mulally told WWJ Newsradio 950's Jeff Gilbert. Mulally said the event offers a chance to help a lot of people get through a difficult time.
"The more I learned about it, the more worth I thought it was to get involved personally," he said.
They've been doing this fund raiser every year since 1942. Back then men came to listen to baseball players speak. These days anyone can come, and the evening now includes a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner and entertainment. Past entertainers include Johnny Trudell and his Orchestra, MOSAIC Youth Choir, and Karen Newman of Red Wing fame.
Tickets are $50. For more information, click this link or call (313) 579-2100, ext. 202.
