Detroit (WWJ Newsroom) -- The Detroit City Council Tuesday is expected to call for a special election that could limit Ken Cockrel, Jr.'s time on the job.
At least six council members have hinted that they favor a special primary on February 24th and a general election May 5th. The winner of the May 5th balloting would take office as soon as the election is certified and finish out the year as mayor.
Aside from Ken Cockrel, who is moving over from his role as city council president following the resignation of Kwame Kilpatrick, some possible candidates include businessman and former Detroit Pistons star Dave Bing, Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans, Kilpatrick's general counsel Sharon McPhail, and former Detroit Police Chief Benny Napoleon.
Cockrel's departure from the council presidency means that council president pro tem Monica Conyers takes over as council president.
