GM Recalling SUV's

Washington (WWJ/AP)  -- General Motors will recall about 300,000 Chevrolet HHR sport utility vehicles to fix a storage bin door that failed to remain closed during government testing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site Monday that the recall involves HHR SUVs in the U.S. from the 2006-2008 model years.

During a test last spring, the glove compartment box in the top center of the instrument panel failed to remain closed in line with a federal safety standard.

GM will send owners a latch reinforcement. Owners will receive instructions to install the part or have their dealer install it.

GM told the government it expects to notify owners and dealers of the issue in late November because of the availability of parts.
