Dems Set Themes For Convention

Southfield (WWJ/AP)  -- Unity, security and change are the nightly themes for the Democratic Convention.

Party officials said Monday that elected leaders, policy experts and convention speakers will respond to voter questions during an "America's Town Hall'' segment on each of the Denver convention's first three nights.

Residents of Detroit and some other cities will be able to record questions or stories during ``open call'' sessions.

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, co-chair of the convention, said that the theme for the Aug. 25 opening night will be "One Nation.''  Monday’s prime-time speaker will be Michelle Obama.

The theme for Aug. 26 is to be ``Renewing America's Promise.''  Senator Hillary Clinton will be the prime-time speaker.

On Aug. 27, the theme is "Securing America's Future.''  The Vice Presidential nominee will give an acceptance speech.

The theme for Aug. 28, the night Obama formally accepts the nomination, is ``Change You Can Believe In.''

The 2008 Convention is about ensuring that those peoples’ voices are heard and their call for change is heeded,” said Sebelius.  “From Monday through Thursday, our Convention program will highlight the people of this country who want positive change and who believe Barack Obama is the leader who will listen to their concerns and get our country moving in the right direction again.”

WWJ's Marie Osborne will be in Denver for the convention.  Stay tuned to WWJ Newsradio 950 for the latest developments.
