Culinary Arts Teacher Accused of Groping Students

St. Clair Shores (WWJ)  -- In St. Clair Shores, a South Lake High School teacher is facing up to two years in prison for allegedly inappropriately touching two male students on a boat earlier this summer.

33-year-old Melissa Lavender was charged Wednesday with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Investigators claim the incidents happened on a boat belonging to the parents of one of her former students and alcohol was involved.

St. Clair Shores investigators said even though the alleged victims are both of the age of consent, state law forbids teachers from having sex with students who are under 18 years old.

The culinary arts teacher is free on bond.  If convicted, she faces up to two years in prison.
