Cobo Plan Coming Soon

DETROIT (WWJ)  -- Detroit and Auto Show dealers said they'll have an announcement within 30 days on a short-term expansion plan for Cobo Center.  The announcement comes after Wednesday's shocking news that Suzuki is pulling out of the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in Detroit because of a lack of space.

WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Douglas Fox,  co-chair of the Auto Show. "We're disappointed.  Suzuki had three introductions that they planned to do for 2009, and those won't be occurring in Detroit because of this," Fox said.

"But at the same time, the space is sold. It doesn't hurt us financially, he said.

Fox says as far as he knows, Suzuki is the ONLY automaker that is leaving the '09 show. He adds that they don't see other automakers pulling out but, he says it drives home the point that we need to be able to satisfy the demand for more space.  And right now, he says, the demand far out weighs the supply.

Fox said he's confident that the expansion of Cobo Center will happen
