Detroit (WWJ) -- Some call him "Dr. Death," but now he claims he's the victim of a death threat.
Assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian says a man said he would kill him when Kevorkian tried to get his signature in support of his bid for Congress. The 80-year-old Kevorkian wants to run as an Independent for the seat held by Republican Joe Knollenberg.
Speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950 on Tuesday, Kevorkian's attorney, Mayer Morganroth, said this is the first threat Kevorkian has received, "He gets mail and calls, just supportive of him." Morganroth said.
"That's just something that just hasn't happened. But I guess when you walk around in crowds and get 4,000 signatures, you're exposing yourself to a lot of people and you're always going to get a crackpot," he said.
Morganroth said Kevorkian is taking the threat very seriously and has filed a police report.
Kevorkian was able to jot down the license plate of the person who made the threat. As of Tuesday afternoon there was no word yet if police had any suspects.
