Stabenow Pushes For Green Tech Tax Credits

Senator Debbie Stabenow is using the Mackinac Policy Conference to make a big push for tax credits that could help consumers buy alternative fuel vehicles.

The big argument is whether money now spent to help oil and gas drilling should be used be used to help alternative energy. That includes tax credits for new high-tech vehicles.

Senator Debbie Stabenow told WWJ Newsradio 950's Jeff Gilbert that something like the Chevy Volt electric car could need a tax credit of $7,000 or more to make it affordable, "We're going to see vehicles that cost more initially. And we need to have major consumer tax credits to be able to help people be able to purchase those vehicles and take the next step," she said.

Stabenow also says she's been able to get $250-million for investment in new battery technology.
