Have term limits ruined Michigan politics? Or do they need more time? WWJ Newsradio 950 was there during a spirited discussion Thursday morning on at the Detroit Regional Chamber's Mackinac Policy Conference on Mackinac Island.
Patrick Anderson, CEO of Anderson Economic Group is a firm supporter of term limits, he says he cannot blame the state's problems on term limits, "This happened not because of term limits -- this happened because people didn't do their job." Anderson said.
Opponents, including Joe Swartz, former state senator and Michigan congress member, say term limits have ruined the way Michigan governs itself. Swartz used a little Hollywood to make his point, "Robert Redford's last line in The Candidate, when he won the election -- 'What do we do now?' Let's face it, that's a term limit," Joe Swartz said.
Supporters of term limits say they would like to give them more time. In the year 2012, like in 2002, there will be a complete turnover in Lansing.
