General Motors Corp.’s Holden unit in Australia will begin offering diesel and hybrid-electric variants of some models in the next few years, Leftlane News says in a report noted by AutoTech Daily.
The online service cites Nick Reilly, a GM group vice president and president of the company’s AsiaPacific region. The Commodore sedan is expected to be one of the first Holden models fitted with a diesel and the first to be hybridized.
Reilly also says Holden is evaluating the potential of using a four-cylinder gasoline
engine in the Commodore. Leftlane points out that GM already is planning to put its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline-direct-injection engine in the Chinese-market version of the Buick Park Avenue, which shares GM’s Zeta platform with the Commodore.
The Pontiac G8 and Chevrolet Camaro use the Zeta platform too -- and therefore could be in line for the four-banger, diesel and/or hybrid system too.
