Cheli's Chili Break-in

Detroit (WWJ)  -- Police were investigating an early morning break-in at Cheli's Chili Bar near Comerica Park in downtown Detroit Friday morning.

WWJ's Vickie Thomas spotted workers boarding up the front window of the restaurant, following what's described as a bold break-in.  Assistant manager Brandon Rotz told WWJ that an alarm went off around 4 a.m. Friday, but the thieves were caught on security cameras.

"(They) got in, walked around for a little bit, went from place to place, tried smashing the ATM, smashed the jukebox, smashed all the registers.  They were desperate to find anything they could," Rotz said.

The break-in is thought to be related to at least three other similar incidents reported downtown Friday morning.

The restaurant, which is owned by Detroit Red Wings star Chris Chelios, was the site of a fatal stabbing of two employees early last year.
