As gas prices continue to climb, many employees are feeling the pinch of the commute in more ways than one.
But experts say employers can ease some of the pain by providing several options to employees that allow them to stay off the road more often. Experts say businesses benefit too – by providing such alternatives, they tend to earn more employee loyalty.
To help ease the burden of costly commutes, WorldatWork experts suggest providing employees with some of the following:
- Transit subsidies
- Car pooling/van pooling (with a contest or incentive)
- Flexible scheduling, such as compressed workweeks, to help keep employees off the road more often.
- Teleworking once or twice a week
- Increased car allowances or mileage reimbursements
- Company-sponsored shuttles from public transportation hubs
- Vary work start and stop times to help reduce congestion on the roadways, which helps employees save gas.
