Freeze Warning

Southfield (WWJ)  -- Snuggle alert!!  Just days after reaching nearly 80 degrees,  temperatures drop to the freezing mark.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning from midnight Tuesday night until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Accuweather Meteorologist Dave Bowers reports temperatures will fall below freezing shortly after midnight across much of southeast Michigan.  Click here for complete weather information.

Minimum temperatures by sunrise Wednesday will range from the mid-20's to the low-30's.  The coldest temperatures will be in the Thumb region.  The warmest area will be in the City of Detroit.

A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely.  Conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

April always has been and always will be a month of great change at middle latitudes, AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologist John Kocet said.  Last week from the Great Lakes across the Northeast, temperatures were shooting toward the 80s.

Kocet says the recent arrival of a cold front has lowered temperatures dramatically since then.  He also says the arrival of the cold front was the reason for the violent thunderstorms and destructive tornadoes in Virginia Monday.

Here's the AccuWeather forecast for southeast Michigan.

Mainly clear and cold Tuesday night with scattered frost. Low 34 downtown to 29 in some outlying areas.

Wednesday: Sunny to partly cloudy and cool. High 57.  Increasing cloudiness at night with a little rain late. Low 43.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a few showers. High 60-64.

Friday: Mostly cloudy and windy with a couple of showers possible.  High 68.

Saturday: Mainly cloudy with some rain possible. High 68.
