Detroit (WWJ) -- A document revealing intimate text messages between Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty.
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Robert Columbo Jr. released the 18-page document that some say led to a secret 8.4 million dollar settlement in the whistleblower lawsuit brought by three police officers.
WWJ's Florence Walton reports Columbo said he believes the document is the reason why the whistleblower case was settled.
The text messages included in the document detail sexually explicit exchanges between Kilpatrick and Beatty.

The document was recovered from the computer of Michael Stefani, who represented the three officers in the lawsuits.
The excerpts had been included in a motion for attorney's fees given by Stefani to one of Kilpatrick's lawyers. After the mayor's lawyer saw the document he phoned Kilpatrick and city lawyers and worked out a deal.
The mayor and his attorneys maintain the document had nothing to do with the settlement.
