Detroit (WWJ) -- The possibility of a rapid transit system being constructed in Detroit is getting a little closer to becoming a reality. The development of a Detroit Light Rail System along Woodward Avenue from downtown to 8 Mile Road is moving into the preliminary engineering phase.
President of Next Energy, James Croce said his company sees such a system as a key promotional tool, "We're going to be a user, for one," he said. "I'll tell you -- all the companies that we've talked to about recruiting them to come to Tech Town or to come to the region -- this is going to be part of our sales kit when we're out promoting the region." Croce said.
The Detroit Light Rail System, which would intersect with the Detroit/Ann Arbor rail line, could eventually run all the way to Pontiac.
Planners are hoping to see the Rail System become a reality in the next five to six years at an estimated total coast of $371 million.
