Detroit summit to promote good parenting, educational success in city
The future success of the region depends a lot on the revival of Detroit, and the future of the city rests in the hands of future generations. It's with that in mind that the Skillman Foundation is hosting a summit meeting this weekend.
The Kids Matter Here Neighborhood Summit will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Detroit Science Center, 5020 John R Street at Warren Avenue.
Residents from the Brightmoor, Cody/Rouge, Northend, Osborn and Southwest Detroit neighborhoods will meet to hear success stories from Skillman’s Good Neighborhoods program; get tips on making kids safe, healthy, educated, and prepared for success; attend community workshops; and a lot more. The keynote speaker will be John F. Barros, executive director of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, a nonprofit community-based planning and organizing entity rooted in the challenged Roxbury and North Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston.
