A "quick reference guide to companies committed to a green Michigan,"Version 2.0 of the directory was released during Embracing A Green Michigan - Carbon Culture At The Crossroads, a half-day conference highlighting the work that's being done in Michigan to develop new technologies and new thinking about the environment.

Energy No Longer Gone With The Wind at KVCC
Strong winds will be welcome at Kalamazoo Valley Community College from now on, but not on Jan. 27-28, thank you. Those are the tentative dates for crews to use a large crane to lift a trio of 25-foot blades to the top of a 40-yard tower on the Texas Township Campus, install them, and put the finishing touches on a 145-foot wind turbine that will generate 50 kilowatts.
Adrian Biodiesel Plant Gets New Owner, $38 Million Investment
An Adrian biodiesel plant now owned by a New York City company said Tuesday that it had signed agreements to receive a $38 million investment to produce 20 million gallons a year of biodiesel from non-edible corn oil that's a byproduct of the production of ethanol from corn. 
'Fish Technology' Draws Clean Energy From Slow Water Currents
A University of Michigan professor has published an academic paper on a novel technology to turn slow-moving ocean and river currents into energy. The technology, called VIVACE, was covered by the Great Lakes IT Report's Fall 2008 Tech Tour in October.

Troy Partners Propose New Trash To Energy Plan
Every time a ton of trash disappears into a Michigan landfill, Bill Chynoweth and Jim Schuur feel a pang of regret. Because in that ton of trash is the energy eqivalent of half a ton or more of coal -- and that trash could be gasified in a virtually pollution-free system to produce energy and steam, and reduce the amount of land devoted to trash burial.
Taylor Contractor Adds Green Construction Practice
Taylor-based J.S. Vig Construction Co. said Tuesday that it has formed Project Green, a green building think tank that expands the company's sustainable construction practice area. J.S. Vig will initially locate a staff of five at Project Green at 157 E. Hoover, Ann Arbor. The location will contain a resource library devoted to sustainable construction.

Architect Firm Going Green with Four Day Work Week
The Lake Orion architectural firm Stephen Auger and Associates this week announced that the firm has shifted to a four-day, 10-hour-a-day work week. For the past 10 years the firm has traditionally moved to a four-day schedule starting after Memorial Day and ending with Labor Day. This year, because of skyrocketing gasoline prices, the company said the four-10 schedule may remain in effect indefinitely.
Chrysler LLC Prices New Hybrids Thousands Below Competition
Chrysler LLC Tuesday announced that its large hybrid trucks will be priced nearly $8,000 below their competition from General Motors Corp. The new 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango Hemi Hybrids offer a 25 percent better overall fuel economy and a 40 percent improvement in city mpg over their gasoline-powered twins.
Detroit Automakers Get Modest Grants For Plug-in Hybrid Demos
The United States Department of Energy has awarded up to $30 million in funding for three cost-shared plug-in hybrid-electric vehicle demonstration and development projects led by General Motors, Ford and General Electric, which is working with Chrysler.
GM Slaps Incentives On Big Hybrid SUVs
Most gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles are flying out of dealer showrooms, now that gasoline has topped $4 per gallon. But AutoBeat Daily noted that General Motors Corp. is offering cash incentives of as much as $4,000 per vehicle on hybrid versionsof its full-size Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs.
Johnson Controls Part of Plug-In Hybrid Test Fleet
A consortium involving Johnson Controls Inc. is part of a consortium that will test a fleet of 20 Ford Escape plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Johnson Controls, based in Milwaukee with its automotive headquarters in Plymouth, is supplying lithium-ion batteries for the test fleet through its partnership with the French battery maker Saft.
Bosch Opens Hydraulic Hybrid Plant in Rochester Hills
Bosch Rexroth this week celebrated the grand opening of its Tech Center East in Rochester Hills. The plant is involved in the development of the hydraulic hybrid systems, which are being tested to conserve energy and reduce the environmental impact of vehicles. It houses 120 employees. 
Battery Failures Slow GM's Hybrid Output
AutoTech Daily and Auto Beat Daily reported Tuesday that a battery defect has forced General Motors Corp. to curb production of the new Chevrolet Malibu hybrid and hybrid versions of the Saturn Aura sedan and Vue SUV -- just as record gasoline prices make hybrids especially appealing to consumers.
