Wrong Way Driver On I-696

Southfield (WWJ)  -- A woman driving the wrong way on I-696 hit and seriously injured a motorcyclist early Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police say the westbound lanes of 696 were closed near Dequindre as police investigated the crash that happened around 2:30 a.m.

Police aren't sure how long the woman was driving the wrong way on the freeway, but say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

The driver is now behind bars.  Criminal charges are pending.

The man riding the motorcycle was listed in critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.
