Woman Fakes Own Home Invasion

Putnam Twp. (AP)  -- State police say a woman lied when she said two men invaded her Livingston County home. Police say that triggered a five-hour manhunt that cost law enforcers $25,000.

State police say a woman called 911 Wednesday to report two men entered her home and punched her in the face. She says they fled when she fired her gun at them.

A helicopter, police dog and neighboring agencies joined the search, and Pinckney Elementary School was briefly locked down, too. But state police Lieutenant Gene Kapp tells WHMI-FM the woman was ``less than truthful,'' and an investigation now is under way.

The home is in Putnam Township, near Pinckney and about 45 miles west of Detroit.
