The Ohio Lottery says a winning Mega Millions ticket has been sold in Ohio.
Lottery spokeswoman Marie Kilbane said Friday night that the ticket for the $196 million drawing was bought from Main Street Wine & Spirits in Amelia in southwest Ohio near Cincinnati. She says she doesn't know if other winning tickets have been sold. The lottery expects to have more details on Saturday.
It's the first Mega Millions winning ticket to be sold in Ohio since Dec. 1, 2006, when a winning ticket was bought in Columbus.
The winning numbers for Friday night's drawing were 6, 11, 39, 46 and 47. The Mega Ball number was 26.
When the lotto reaches the really big numbers, business at local lottery retailers picks up. At the Cracker Barrel Party Store on Southfield Road in Southfield, owner Hani Najor says however, sees a darker side. He says he's watched as customers put back groceries so they'll have a few dollars left to play the lottery. He says many customers come in and buy several hundred dollars worth of tickets when the jackpot goes over $150 million. Najor adds, one customer told him today that he spent $5,000 on the lottery last year.
Najor says he'd rather have customers come in and spend money on food and other items because he knows they'll come back. Najor also noted that wealthy customers come into the store and see the huge jackpot and usually only buy one ticket. |
