Royal Oak (AP) -- Victoria Levin, the wife of Michigan Congressman Sander Levin, has died at age 74.
The congressman's office says Levin died Thursday morning after struggling with breast cancer for several months.
Levin was a Detroit native and married to the congressman for more than 50 years. She worked for nearly 30 years as a science research officer for several agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Sander Levin's office said in a statement that their marriage was a ``half-century partnership that served as a very public model of love, shared public service and progressive advocacy'' for people in Michigan and Washington.
The Democratic congressman was first elected to his suburban Detroit district in 1982. He is the brother of Michigan Senator Carl Levin.
