Volcanoes Are A Blast!

Kids are fascinated by volcanoes, and by reading about them, your student can learn a lot about both the earth and geography. For elementary age students, just the idea of a volcano and eruptions can be startling and exciting.

Kids this age love to build their own volcanoes out of Styrofoam cups, and use vinegar and baking soda to create an eruption. Older elementary and middle school students can use the topic to learn about plate tectonics, and the forces that create volcanoes.

By middle and high school, students can also learn the grisly truth about eruptions such as Vesuvius, where a whole cite was plunged under volcanic ash, preserving evidence of ancient Roman life for future archaeologists.

Find a couple of recipes for how to make a volcano at home at this link.
