VNA Offers Flu Shot Clinics

Detroit (WWJ)  -- It's flu season again, and the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan has begun its series of flu clinics.

Kay Renny, Manager of Community programs for the VNA, told WWJ Newsradio 950's that certain people are at higher risk than others, and 4 out of 5 people fall into the recommended group:
  • Children age 6 months - 18
  • Adults over age 50
  • Anyone with a chronic disease
  • Pregnant women and women hoping to become pregnant
  • Health care workers
  • Residents of longterm care facilities

People will be vaccinated against the 3 new strains of flu expected this year. Renny said the flu shot people received last year will not protect them this year -- they will need to be revaccinated.

If you or a family member are homebound, VNA will come out to the house, and even the family members can get immunized as well. The fee is $40 for the in-home shot. At the clinics, flu shots are $25.
