Southfield (WWJ) -- Metro Detroiters who got used to the mild weather Wednesday got a surprise Thursday morning.
Temperatures were falling to the freezing mark early Thursday, making for slippery roads.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reported that the Road Commission for Oakland County garage on Franklin Road in Southfield was buzzing with activity before 5 a.m. Salt trucks were heading out to get in place for the expected slippery roads. Driver Michael Mattson told WWJ that he was keeping an eye on his trucks and the thermometer.
"They've got temperature sensors on their trucks, so they're watching it, I mean they're on it. They're watching all the overpasses and stuff like that first. So, when it drops below a certain degree, they're ready to go," Mattson said.
