What we've heard about Mr. Laverell:
"Lav is very much involved. He is around at every meeting, and every competition. Even when his daughter, Haley, was having seizures and he was at the hospital with her he would call and see what we were doing. He helps us out when we need help with the robot, and if he can't help us he will find someone who does. He also organizes and decides, with our input, on what competitions we go to and what we can afford. He also helps set up the fundraisers and finds sponsors.
This year we lost our main sponsors, Metal Flow, three weeks before the money was due for competitions, because of the economy. So, this year he has worked really hard to raise the money so we could even go to any competitions. We thought we weren't going to make it, but with Lav and some of the other students help to find sponsors and to get them involved financially and with the robot. He is also the one that is in charge and runs most of the meetings. Durning planning he also made sure that each of our ideas were heard for the robot. He is also always there for us when we need him. He is like my second father.
I think Lav deserves this award because of how much he help the team and the people on the team. He also deserves it because of how much he cares about the team. He is always there for me and everyone else. You can really see how much he loves all his students, not only the one on the robotics team. He is always there for us. To me he is like my second father. If we ever have problems and need to vent or need to help Lav is always there. He's a great listener and a strong christian and I know he really cares about us. Even when is daughter, haley, was in the hospital, because of her new, random, seizers that she started having during the first week of the build season, he would call and check up on us while we were working and check how things were going.
Lav is also a great teacher. He is fair in his classes and he makes learning fun and entertaining. If you need help because you don't understand something he will make sure he make's time for YOU. He wants to make sure that each student is applying themselves to the best of there abilities. He encourages us and make sure that we keep doing our best. "
