The Fabric of Learning
|
Children are interested in buying stylish clothes, but you may want to work on getting them to understand the science of clothing that lasts. In stores, turn garments wrong side out and examine the quality of different garments.
Teach children how to read the care label and develop an understanding of fiber properties, such as the structure of cotton fibers makes clothes feel much more comfortable than polyester. Make them informed consumers by visiting fabriclink.com where basic fiber, label, and stain guide information can be located.
For students interested in clothing and similar materials, programs at the college level in textiles may be of interest to them in the future.
For more information about apparel, textiles, and merchandising program at Eastern Michigan University, check the program website at http://www.emich.edu/cot/progsites/atm.
