Detroit (WWJ) -- A Plymouth Township teenager convicted last month of first degree murder was sentenced Monday morning to life in prison without parole in connection with what prosecutors called a "thrill kill."
WWJ's Ron Dewey reports Jean Pierre Orlewicz didn't speak in court. Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Annette Berry told him: "I am grateful that you are going away for the rest of your life, because in my view I believe you will kill again.''
Orlewicz was convicted last month of first-degree murder in the Nov. 7 slaying in Canton Township of 26-year-old Daniel Sorensen of River Rouge. He was stabbed to death, beheaded and his body was set on fire and left in a Northville Township subdivision.
Sorenson's parents told the court their lives would be altered forever.
The defense argued Orlewicz killed Sorensen in self-defense and has promised to appeal. Berry said "this was not an act of self defense, this was an act of evil."
Eighteen-year-old Alexander Letkemann pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and last month was sentenced to 20 to 30 years..
