Teen Killed Outside Detroit Hall

Detroit (WWJ)  -- A 15-year old boy is dead and a 17-year old was in stable condition Friday morning, following a shooting at a Detroit banquet hall.

It happened around 1 a.m. at the American Serbian Memorial Hall on Van Dyke at Outer Drive.  The hall's Food and Beverage manager, Michael Falzon, told WWJ that about 200 people were at a teen party, which he was supervising.  He said that only soft drinks and water were being served.

Falzon said that when things started getting out of hand, he closed the party down.  Detroit police said that the shooting took place in the parking lot.

The teens were taken to St. John Hospital, where the 15-year old was pronounced dead.

Police were talking with witnesses, but no arrests had been made as of late Friday afternoon.

Reports also said that a skirmish broke out at St. John Hospital involving people who were at the hall.

Falzon said that their thoughts and prayers were with the victims' families.

One of the bullets fired went through the wall of a nearby senior apartment building.  Betty Green told WWJ's Pat Sweeting the bullet went through a closet, bedroom, mirror and lodged in the wall.

Green said the bullet would have hit her husband if he hadn't laid down just before the bullet came into the home.

Green and her husband called 911 four times early Friday, but police never came out.  Officers finally talked to Green at 11 a.m. Friday morning.
