Teen Facing Terrorism, Explosives Charges

Canton (WWJ)  -- A Canton teen is facing explosive and terrorism-related charges after trying to derail a train.

Police arrested Ian Douglas after he allegedly set off a pipe bomb under a railroad overpass near I-275 and Haggerty Road Sunday.

Two witnesses told police Douglas pointed a shotgun at them on Sunday and, after asking for their identity, lit the bomb and said he was trying to derail a train.

Douglas has been charged with making a threat of terrorism, placing an explosive device near property and assault with a dangerous weapon.  He could get 20 years in jail if convicted.

Police aren't sure why Douglas wanted to blow-up the overpass.

Douglas is jailed on a 500-thousand dollar bond.  He's due back in court next week.

July 30, 2008, Canton, MI - Canton resident Ian Michael Douglas, 18, was arraigned yesterday in 35th District Court on five felony charges resulting from an incident that took place early Sunday morning at a railroad overpass near I-275 and Haggerty Road.
